Handcrafted pottery
& Creative Clay Workshops
Pottery by Melissa
Welcome to the home of my pottery. I make modern rustic functional pottery and sculptural pieces in my garden studio, both on the wheel and by hand.
I use a variety of surface decoration techniques, from carving into the clay to using coloured slips with scraffito designs carved into them.

A little bit about me
I often wonder about the twists and turns that life takes. If I had mapped out my life a few decades ago, I wouldn’t have foreseen moving into the world of pottery, but in hindsight it all makes perfect sense. Making mud bowls as a child, working with the earth in gardens, and now working with clay in the studio.
My practice is shaped by a background in garden design where I developed a deep familiarity with natural materials and considered craftsmanship, and a degree in Behavioural Science, which grounds my belief that making with our hands genuinely matters. Pottery is one of humanity's oldest creative traditions, and the evidence for its role in culture, community and individual wellbeing is both ancient and ongoing.
A sabbatical travelling through Europe gave me the clarity to act, and I returned home to establish my studio, a place where I’m ready to take on this next chapter.
I’m still early in my journey as a potter, and enjoying the process of finding my style and testing different clays, glazes and shapes. Alongside my own practice, I offer workshops from my studio. These are designed to be accessible, restorative and genuinely enjoyable. My aim is to create an environment that feels welcoming and unhurried; somewhere people can slow down, engage their hands and discover what working with clay has to offer them.
