Melissa won a competition run by National Savings and Investments to design a show garden at BBC Gardener’s World Live 2010.

The brief was to create a Kitchen Garden fit for modern day life. Central to the garden was a bespoke bar unit that Melissa designed that doubled up as both a bar and potting table, complete with integral seed tray, cold frame and storage cupboard. A large curved wall at the back of the garden was painted in blackboard paint so that everyday jobs around the garden could be noted down. All plants grown in the garden were suitable for an array of different salads.

The garden drew in substantial media attention and Melissa was featured on BBC2’s Gardener’s World programme.
